Hey, glad so many people dug this thread. I came up with a better way though: tape some earbuds to each drum head. They'll work as a very cheap contact mic (I got enough for the whole kit for 3 dollars each at a local music store). Over the earbuds, tape one half of a clamshell hearing protector. Th...

Question about hits on the "visual triggering" scr

The following screenshot shows me playing a snare drum (and nothing else). I hit it pretty slowly, 7 times in a row: l-r-l-r-l-r-l. The white dots do accurately show the hits. But what's all the other stuff at the bottom? http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh5/hotmeal/graph.jpg If I didn't know what...

I've made another improvement to this: I added a funnel to the top and several layers of duct tape around the body. The funnel helps me to reject other sounds better, as does the extra tape by making the body of the container a little more dense. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh5/hotmeal/capsul...

In my initial test, I couldn't get any cymbals to leak through enough to set off the snare. We're recording this weekend with this setup, so I'll post a follow up on Monday to let you know how it went in a real setting. I'm also wondering if maybe a funnel in the top would help direct the sound stra...

Tip for MASSIVE isolation

I'm using Drumagog on a recording for a metal band, where heavy tom hits were always bleeding through into the snare track, causing the snare to misfire. Setting the threshold to grab only the snare hits was impossible in this case and messing around with the frequency filters just took too much tim...

DP5/Drumagog/DFHS/MIDI

I own DFHS and finally got Drumagog to see it using MIDI out. Here's what I had to do to replace a snare (in this order!) 1. Insert drumagog on the snare track in DP5 2. Add the DFHS instrument track. I named it "KD" 3. Create all the usual AUX tracks like you would in any other DFHS sessi...
